RV & Motorhome Carports Built for Texas Owners
Tall-clearance carports custom-sized to your rig, not the catalog.
If you own an RV, you already know the problem with most carports: they're not tall enough. The standard "carport" sold at hardware stores is 8 feet to the eaves, fine for a sedan, useless for a Class A motorhome or a 5th wheel with a roof AC unit. RV carports are a different category, and they need to be built differently. At Hill Country Mobile Welding, we custom-build RV and motorhome carports on-site across Central Texas, sized to your actual rig, with the clearance you need to pull in clean and the headroom to stand up on the roof when you're servicing AC units, slide-outs, or the satellite.

Clearance Sizing Guide
Most RV owners don't realize how much height they actually need. Here's a starting point:
- Class B (camper vans): 10' clearance minimum
- Class C motorhomes: 11–12' clearance (depending on AC roof units)
- Class A motorhomes: 12–14' clearance (add 1–2' over rig height for AC servicing)
- Travel trailers: 10–11' clearance
- 5th wheels: 12–13' clearance (the pin box raises bed height)
- Toy haulers: 12'+ depending on roof equipment
We always measure your rig before quoting, manufacturer specs are often understated by 6–12 inches once you account for roof equipment.
Width & Length Considerations
RV carports need more width than car carports. A 40-foot Class A with slide-outs deployed can need 13 feet of width, but most "RV carports" sold online are 12 feet wide. We build to your rig:
- Single RV (slide-in): 14'×40' to 16'×45'
- Single RV (slide-outs deployed): 16'×42' to 18'×48'
- RV + tow vehicle: 20'×45' to 24'×50'
- Side-by-side double: 28'+ width

Texas Sun = RV Damage
Without cover, Texas UV destroys RV roofs in 5–7 years. Decals fade, sealants crack, fiberglass yellows, and that's before you account for hail. A welded steel RV carport pays for itself in roof preservation alone, most RV roof replacements run $8,000–$15,000.
Build Features We Recommend
- Open-air design (best airflow, prevents moisture buildup under the rig)
- Steel posts set in concrete piers (not stakes, Texas wind takes stakes out)
- 26-gauge standing seam or corrugated roof (handles hail better than light panels)
- Optional electrical prep for 30A or 50A shore power hookup
- Optional wash bay slope for rinse-off after Hill Country mud runs
